Defiant State - Broken Hearts, Broken Bones
Description
Kentucky meets New Mills via Portland: Massive UK'82 crusher, the debut album by DEFIANT STATE from Somerset, KY is very reminiscent of CRIMINAL DAMAGE at first glance. In other words, you use identical blueprints: BLITZ, BLITZ, BLITZ. Update nicely muscled with steroids (the BLITZ cover "Nation on fire" fits perfectly). Mode: Aggressive and angry. DEFIANT STATE play on the bad side of the coin, leveling with heavy equipment. The polyphonic Rauhbein singing guarantees success for this. Gargled with nails, rinsed with MARLBORO. Comes wonderfully nasty and unwashed. Underlaid by a beefy, compact sound wall, including double bass attacks and distorted bass runs in Lemmy style. Solid singalongs ensure a solid Oi! Edge, DEFIANT STATE are confidently on the move in both varieties. In addition, the OXBLOOD cover "Traitor" intervenes, also implemented in a very stylish way. Conclusion: An entertaining and intense street punk pleasure: 11 crisp songs in just under 30 minutes with top notch sound, perfectly staged by Bill Stevenson (DESCENDENTS, ALL, BLACK FLAG) in his BLASTING ROOM.
