They’ve gone crazy!! The Berlin based LA MAFIA DEL BAILE just released “ROCKNROLL MONKEYS OF BABYLONIA”, an album to shake the pilars of RnR.
After their opening instrumental “Trepidacion” (now the theme music for the Spanish radio show Trepidación), EDUARDO UNA ((Boogie Punkers, The Longboards, Jukebox Racket) and his pals jump into a truck packed full with dynamite and rolling at 300Km/h into the insane “Strange Kind of Love” with one of the craziest harmonica solos of recent years. Pure Speed-Punk-Blues.
So are La Mafia del Baile rockabilly, psychobilly, Ska, RnR….? Noooooo. What use are these old labels at the start of the 21st century, one of confusión, disorder and, as the album title says, the century of a chaotic Babylon.
In this way, freed from the chains of style, La Mafia del Baile are one minute playing a raw, dancing rockabilly tune and the next, dressed in high heels and 70s platforms, begging for your love like a swampy New York Dolls in “I Love You” - with a bass line that drills your heart. And what can we say about the version of the classic revolucionary Basque song of Mikel Laboa “Txoria Txori”? This crazed country, down-thehill-with-no-brakes song is going to give more than one pro-Basque a heart attack.
Roots music for the 21st century, ska, 80s-billy, surf punk, latino sung in English, Basque, Spanish and German and, most importantly, aimed at getting you up on the dancefloor with the good vibrations that Mafia del baile captured on their 2nd álbum, “RnR MONKEYS OF BABYLONIA”
...so what are you waiting for? Dive into the sins of Babylon!
