Soifass release their new album for their 25th anniversary and the Berliners have never sounded better positioned between well-dosed heaviness and concise choruses. An absolute slab!!!
Founded in 1999 in East Berlin as an Oi-Punk band, they quickly found their own unmistakable style somewhere between Punk, HC, Oi! and now and then even with Ska influences (on speed).
Fast and driving beats meet blasting guitars, lively melodies and streetwise vocals without using genre-typical clichés lyrically. They dish it out, they take it, they dispense with the high index finger as well as commercial ambitions. While many bands have adapted their sound to the “German rock” trend of recent years, the band around shouter Viktor has stayed in their territory.
And there is a lot to tell in the 12 new songs and to call a spade a spade in typical Soifass style: “Hipster-Stomp” is the quasi sequel to their anti-identification hit ‘Großstatdtwahnsinn’, infiltrating Berlin and other big cities for their new playground. The “Berliner Walzer” is a relentless dance about the ever-widening gap in the elbow society.
Soifass have always tackled the burning issues lyrically in a different and more subtle way. Instead of slogans and bold slogans, songs like “Verschwörer” have a completely different effect when your partner believes all the bullshit in your most intimate circle, or when “Exzessiv” holds up a mirror to the supposedly ideal world with biting cynicism.
And after 25 years of making this Berlin figurehead one of the best German-language street punk bands, you can look back yourself with “Anglizismen”. Soifass do this without the usual self-congratulation. This band is in a class of its own... Authentic, dirty Soifass!
