Russian Circles return with a re-release of their legendary album Empros, complete with a newly designed, embossed gatefold sleeve, available on classic black vinyl. Empros picked up where the anthemic riffs and melodies of 2009's Geneva left off, injecting even more sluggish rhythms amidst skull-crushing force with all the visceral intensity of Godflesh, Swans and Neurosis. Simply put, Empros is Russian Circles' Master of Reality: a radical reworking of both heavy and melodic that is monolithic in its clarity and perfection. Or, like a lone surviving woolly animal emerging from the brutal frost of winter, Empros is the sound of a band shaking age from their shoulders with all the brutal vigour of an awakened beast. Mike, Dave and Brian have always been working on the same statue. They chisel, they beat, they hammer at it. Sometimes with full force, sometimes very delicately. The masters of monolithic melodies and monumental rhythms presented with absolute clarity are at work again. With "Empros", they once again uncover a piece of this mighty statue. And there may even be a few surprises in the album's six tracks. There are riffs, yes - lots of them. But with Empros, the entire band seems to be the embodiment of the riff itself.
"The six-song album intricately blends fat, grisly, discordant riffage with melodic, atmospheric, proggy sprinklings to create a sonically elaborate and raw package." - Premier Guitar
