Description

Digging punk in the Wild East! "I wanna go over the Berlin Wall", sang Johnny Rotten in the Sex Pistols hit "Holidays in the Sun". When the song came out, punk had long since seeped through the Iron Curtain; almost at the same time, the Slovenian band Pankrti marked punk's breakthrough in the socialist public sphere with their first show. In the same year, the conceptual art band Spions formed in Hungary and Walek Dzedzej Pank Bend and KSU in Poland. "Warsaw Punk Pact" is a voyage of discovery into this mostly unknown subculture and at the same time the first comprehensive reference work on Eastern European punk up to the collapse of the system in 1989. The most important protagonists and scenes of the Eastern European underground are presented in country portraits, including tips for playing, selection discographies and a detailed filmography.
