Nine Pound Hammer, known for their raucous, over-the-top blend of punk rock, hard rock, country music and hillbilly iconography, were one of the defining bands of the “cowpunk” scene that paved the way for alt-country in the late '80s and early '90s. Just under six years after their original breakup, Scott Luallen, Blaine Cartwright, Matt Bartholomy and Bill Waldron played a few reunion shows with Nine Pound Hammer in 2000, and in 2004 Luallen and Cartwright finally decided it was time to let the group go once again. With a new line-up, NPH returned to the scene with “Kentucky Breakdown”. The fifth album from the legendary band from Lexington shows the band around original members Scott Luallen and Blaine Cartwright, who has since enjoyed considerable success with NASHVILLE PUSSY, back in impressive form. According to NINE POUND HAMMER, that's because “...real life has made us rougher, more bitter and crazier guys...” and that nowadays “...there are so many crap rock and lightweight alternative country bands out there, we're really pissed off and we're going to show them how it's done!”. “Kentucky Breakdown” was produced by Dave Barrick and shows one thing above all: NINE POUND HAMMER - often copied, never equaled!!!
