Description

The Madness is the only studio album by a short-lived incarnation of Madness, formed by four of the original members - Suggs, Lee Thompson, Chris Foreman and Cathal Smyth. It was originally released on Virgin Records in May 1988.

The album represented a sonic departure from previous Madness albums and showed an experimental direction, utilizing new technologies that would characterize other artists' records of the same era. Without Madness bassist Mark Bedford, drummer Woody and keyboardist Mike Barson, these duties were filled by a number of guest musicians including Earl Falconer of UB40 (bass), Jerry Dammers (The Specials) and Steve Nieve of Elvis Costello And The Attractions on keyboards and Simon Phillips on drums. This brand new reissue includes exclusive liner notes with in-depth interviews with band members Lee "Kix" Thompson, Cathal "Chas Smash" Smyth and Chrissyboy Foreman on their memories of the making of the record.
