Guacamaya, the Magenta-based combat band, has undergone several line-up changes in recent years, while maintaining the core of Reb, Elena and Cannuccia, and has recently added the brothers Ciaki and Teo on bass and guitar respectively. ‘Clessidra Senza Sabbia’ comes four years after their last release, but as far as I heard, the guys have not been in mothballs, rather they have sharpened their blades, which they now grip tightly between their teeth.
In the opening track the band tells its story with the poetic ‘Kites’, an introspective and delicate glimpse of its attitude, then from the second track the beating starts, but the poetry does not abandon the beautiful lyrics, but rather arms itself with powerful guitars and incessant rhythms, and this is perhaps what jumps out most immediately to the ear: the band has taken maniacal care of the sound, making it less edgy than previous works, but more intense and badass, more powerful and precise, they have had the balls to change skin without losing anger and identity.
But let us come to what has always distinguished Reb and his associates, namely the lyrics, which in their new work deal with delicate themes that are not easy to explain, such as the spectre of depression, murders that are forgotten all too soon, and terrible stories of war and all that they cause, leaving terrible aftermaths. for the aficionados); It is clear that we were used to it well and to maintain oneself at certain levels is never easy, but I am also of the idea that in life, as in this case, one can always improve, even and especially at 40 years of age, I believe that the band is aware of its own means and throws in bullets of a high calibre, 7 new pieces of excellent workmanship well produced, I like the way it has been arranged, I like the alternation of Reb and Elena's voices -splendid in ‘Reindeer’-, I really like ‘Poison’ because it mirrors everything that Out Of Control has been doing for years, and the three tracks published in the ‘2019’ EP close the album.
