FEMALE-FRONTED IS NOT A GENRE 3
Punk and Hardcore Festival

with SAINT AGNES, KILL HER FIRST, STILL TALK, MESSED UP, TREMØRE

Three-year-olds are loud and defiant. So is "Female-Fronted Is Not A Genre", which is entering its third round this year. The punk and hardcore festival focuses on strong female voices and female-fronted bands and continues to set a self-confident example. Especially in the male-dominated music world, the event series aims to encourage other FLINTA*s and give their stories a stage. And this stage is once again at the legendary SO36. Together with Kreuzberg friends and neighbours Coretex and Iriedaily, the evening will be presented on 18 October 2024.

"Female-Fronted Is Not A Genre" was originally the brainchild of the Berlin band Kill Her First, which was founded in 2007 with an all-female line-up. Although the quintet has undergone numerous line-up changes since then, it has never lost sight of its original message: Inclusivity and diversity in punk and hardcore.

THIS YEAR'S LINE-UP:

SAINT AGNES (horror punk/trash metal, London): A band like a macabre graphic novel. The music of the London quartet around Kitty A. Austen is aimed at the losers and outcasts of society, the lonely and the strange. Their universe is populated by good and evil - saints and hustlers, angels and demons. In their own words: "We like to fuck things up."

KILL HER FIRST (Melodic Hardcore, Berlin): Kill Her First play melodic hardcore with punk rock at its heart - after all, they have been sharing stages with bands like Rise Against, Blackout Problems, Refused and Descendents since 2007. Sometimes fast, sometimes banging, plus vulnerable lyrics with a never-give-up mentality. In their luggage: new material from their forthcoming album.

STILL TALK (pop-punk/emo, Cologne): Their name is a reference to Jimmy Eat World, their sound follows in the footsteps of Paramore. Their great debut album St. Banger, which also features influences from nu metal and post hardcore, took them to many stages across the country in 2023, including as support for FJØRT. However, they are far from running out of energy.

MESSED UP (punk rock, Belarus/Ukraine): The four young women came together in 2015 with the will to escape the lethargy of their post-Soviet homeland and confront the social expectations and constraints of their own environment with self-empowerment and creativity. In the small Belarusian subculture, which was often affected by repression and a lack of understanding, at least a temporary escape from everyday society was possible. The band's Russian-language lyrics pursue social and political hotspots such as racism, homophobia and social ignorance. Singer Nastya's powerful voice is often reminiscent of her colleagues from Distillers, Hole or L7.
