A quarter of a century ago, on December 6, 1999, “Unsterblich” was released, the eleventh studio album by Die Toten Hosen. Exactly 25 years later, this album is being re-released in an opulent edition with 16 bonus tracks (five of which - “Frei Sein”, “Man”, “Bad Wolf”, “Fly”, “Happy Song” - were only recently rediscovered in these versions in the band's archives and have never been available to the public before): “Unsterblich 1999 - 2024: Die 25 Jahre-Jubiläumsedition”.
The album, which saw the light of day on the threshold of a new millennium, was released during a period of upheaval that was not easy for the band, but all the more important: drumming legend Wölli hung up his drumsticks, Vom Ritchie became his successor and the musicians had to cope with a number of strokes of fate. Accordingly, “Immortal” is much more reflective than many of its predecessors and, in addition to typical hits such as the then scandalous song “Bayern” (today the single is in the Bayern Munich museum) and “Schön sein”, also contains songs that are out of the ordinary in terms of sound (“Helden und Diebe”, “Warum werde ich nicht satt?”), which have also developed into real classics of the Hosen repertoire over the years.
“Immortal 1999 - 2024: The 25th Anniversary Edition” is being released in a lavish, numbered edition limited to 7,000 copies. The hardcover gatefold deluxe book contains the album as a 180g vinyl record and CD as well as a bonus CD. The lavishly designed booklet in LP format contains 32 pages of previously unpublished photos, historically valuable press articles and other artifacts from the band's archive. In an extensive interview, we learn more about why the album wasn't called “Kamasutra” after all, what happened at the first concert with Vom and what it was actually like with Franz Beckenbauer on “Wetten, dass... ?
