30th Anniversary Edition Remastered. Wish was released in 1992 as the follow-up to the 1989 album Disintegration. The basic mood of the album is more optimistic than that of its melancholy predecessor, which is why Wish is considered to be more compatible with broad mass taste.
Consequently, Wish is still the album with which The Cure achieved their biggest chart success worldwide. It debuted at number 1 in the UK and at number 2 in the US Billboard 200, where it sold more than 1.2 million copies. In Germany, the album reached No. 6 and remained in the charts for 29 weeks from 4 May to 22 November 1992.
The second single, Friday I'm in Love, became one of The Cure's best-known songs. It reached number 6 in the UK charts, number 17 in the US charts and number 1 in South Africa.
Wish was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1993.
Guest musician Kate Wilkinson plays the viola on the track To Wish Impossible Things.
