Spitfire - Night Hunting
Description
For the first time ever available as vinyl LP (300 worldwide, 180 gram vinyl, with folding poster insert): the debut album of the Russian skapunk sextet, produced by the label boss himself on PORK PIE in cooperation with the Russian labels MR. DIRT and BUNTARO REKERDZ.
Founded in 1993, the colorful troupe from St. Petersburg, who also played in the STUNNIG JIVESWEETS and later ST. PETERSBURG SKA JAZZ REVIEW, attracted the interest of PORK PIE label boss MATZGE early on. Shortly after, the song "I Wanna See You" from the first demo ended up on the cult label sampler "United Colours Of Ska Vol. 2", and in the subcultural boom of the post-reunification era, MATZGE and SPITFIRE soon arranged to meet in St. Petersburg, where the 14 songs for "Night Hunting" were recorded together. Contrary to the still dominant offbeat purists of the scene, SPITFIRE belonged to the early bands that combined ska grippingly with punk and hardcore as well as funky grooves. Active as a septet line-up for many years since then, their debut album coincided with the heyday of compact discs, so it is only now, 25 years later, that any thought has been given to a vinyl pressing of their first album. The LP includes a 4c poster inlay with all lyrics and a sheet with liner notes / history.
