Conflict was formed in 1981 in Eltham, South East London, when frontman Colin Jerwood, inspired by early encounters with the Sex Pistols and his experiences on tour with The Clash, came into contact with Crass. Driven by the idea of making punk more radical and confrontational, Conflict quickly found its place in the emerging anarcho-punk movement. Crass themselves supported the band by releasing the debut single The House That Man Built on Crass Records in 1982. When Crass disbanded as planned in 1984, Conflict took over - and brought the fight against authority to the stage with even greater determination. The band grew steadily in stature over the following years, culminating in the legendary Gathering of the 5,000 concert at London's Brixton Academy on April 18, 1987. The explosive mixture of anger and rebellion escalated into a riot provoked by the police, which ended with injuries, arrests and financial ruin for the band. Conflict was subsequently banned from most major venues in London and across the UK. But steadfastly the band continued on their path and remained a fixture on the live punk scene. Now, over two decades after their last album There's No Power Without Control (2003), Conflict are back with This Much Remains. The 16 brand new songs combine the uncompromising spirit of the past with a clear vision for the future - both musically and politically. Themes such as animal rights continue to take center stage in tracks like A Mother's Milk and Shut The Fuck Up, while the anger at corrupt governments remains undiminished. Conflict remains a band that refuses to bend - uncompromising, passionate and louder than ever.
