Swedish punk rockers City Saints have announced the release of their highly anticipated new studio album: “Explosiv!” is the band's sixth album since their formation in Gothenburg in 2012. Since then, the band has toured across Europe several times and achieved millions of streams.
City Saints have made a name for themselves for their “take no prisoners” attitude on “High Voltage” and their catchy choruses. “Explosive!” is no exception. The album can be seen as a loving homage to the band's hometown of Gothenburg. Both in the lyrics and through the musical influence of the Gothenburg punk scene of the late 70s and early 80s, the new songs have been appropriately recorded in their native language.
“Explosiv!” begins with a surprise in the Ennio Morricone-inspired ‘Göta Älv’. This atmospheric number paves the way for a series of fast-paced, anthemic songs such as “Majorna” and “På G”, where a touch of the Ramones spirit is immediately noticeable. The band's love of distinctly playful down and dirty rock'n'roll with snotty vocals and full speed can be clearly felt in “Blod & Bly” and “Kranarnas Stad”.
There are further surprises in the form of the title track, in which a wild bass solo lives up to the name “Explosive!”, and the outro “Fan Ta Er”, a short live cut played in an intimate setting with just vocals and harmonica to a driving beat.
City Saints have once again worked with producer Chips Kiesbye, known for his work with The Hellacopters and Michael Monroe, for the new album. The result is a natural sounding record reminiscent of the stripped down productions from the golden age of punk rock. The band made full use of Kiesbye's talent and was also able to invite the singer and guitarist from “Sator” on “Explosiv!” to make a guest appearance in the studio on mandolin and accordion.
The LP comes as a Collectors Edition on 180gr. Vinyl in gatefold cover and in addition to classic black vinyl also in 2 limited colored variations
