“SCHWERT AUS HOLZ” sounds euphoric, light and positive. Despite all the wooden melancholy, the DONOTS allow themselves to rethink all the songs with a different vibe, new rhythms, alternative melodies and yet always with enough grip and drive - because fast songs such as the live classic “Dead Man Walking” or the secret summer hit “Problem kein Problem” also come through the wooden table on the acoustic album. But it's not just the new arrangements that are blowing a breath of fresh air through DONOTS' own Heavy Kranich Studio, where the songs were rethought and recorded in various sessions. The DONOTS have invited old friends and companions for various goosebump moments.
For example, the DONOTS hit “Stop The Clocks” has been turned into a duet with Campino from Die Toten Hosen, while Kuddel von Holst (also from Die Toten Hosen) has recorded a wonderful guitar solo for the first new English-language DONOTS song in 13 years. Frank Turner is of course not to be missed in the new edition of “So Long”, Chuck Ragan from Hot Water Music and Matt Hensley from Flogging Molly recommend themselves with a grating voice and accordion and Shitney Beers sings the intro to “Keiner kommt hier lebend raus” in her wonderful shoegaze way.
The pre-release singles “Allein zu allein” and “Problem kein Problem” have already captured a number of hearts and “SCHWERT AUS HOLZ” is likely to flood all the remaining chambers of the heart - even on the completely sold-out pre-release acoustic tour for the album release. It's a love thing...
