Avenue Six Left - faces-Im Herbst 2007 gegründet, nahmen Avenue Six Left schon im März des darauffolgenden Jahres ihre erste Demo-CD, die mittlerweile komplett ausverkauft ist, auf. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit standen A6L als Vorband von Szenegrößen wie War From A Harlots Mouth, Maroon, Born From Pain und Texas In July auf dem Programm und konnten so ihre intensive und energiegeladene Live-Show auch überregional an den Mann bringen. Auch wenn sich die 6 Jungs im Alter von 18 bis 23 Jahren beim Metal und Hardcore bedienen, ist ihr Musikmix weit entfernt von den Standard Metalcore Bands der Szene. Technische Elemente und Synthesizer sind in den Songs genauso vertreten wie die allseits beliebten Moshs und Breaks. Für den nötigen Tiefgang sorgen, neben den komplexen aber ,catchigen" Riffs der Melodiefraktion, die vielseitigen Vocals von zwei Sängern. Die von keinem geringeren als Alexander Dietz (Heaven Shall Burn) gemasterte Debut CD Faces, wird die stetig wachsende Fanbase direkt ins Mark treffen. In Deadly Sounds Records, einem neuen Unterlabel des renommierten Dead Serious Records (Cataract, Teamkiller, Sick Of It All usw.), konnten die Jungs einen vielversprechenden Deal einheimsen. Im Winter 2010 wird dort die erste Full-Length CD der Sechs erscheinen. Bis dahin wollen Avenue Six Left auf möglichst vielen Shows nur eines unter Beweis stellen: FACE THE BEAST!

Ganze drei Jahre haben sich Australiens Hardcore-Metal-Helden für den Nachfolger ihres Albums "Horizon" (2007) Zeit gelassen. Kein Wunder, denn die Ansprüche hingen auch hoch. Umso schöner, dass es der Band gelungen ist, alle Erwartungen zu toppen. Seinem charakteristischen Sound ist das Quintett aus Down Under im Kern treu geblieben, das Erstaunliche an "Deep Blue" ist vielmehr, wie es der Band gelingt, Musik, Text und Artwork zu einer dynamischen Einheit zu formen. Daran nicht ganz unschuldig war Produzent Joe Barresi, der für seine Arbeit mit Queens Of The Stone Age, Bad Religion und Tool bekannt ist. "Wir hatten ein Konzept im Kopf, das hat uns geleitet. Hell Within - god grant me vengeance-God Grant Me Vengeance mixes a lot of grooves and breakdowns with good transitions that keep the songs moving. There are some twists and turns in the song variation, and JJ Longs clean melodic vocals morph nicely into aggressive shout vocals. Theres nothing too innovative about their riffs; its pretty standard metalcore. However, drummer Derek Jay really brings the tempo to the breaking point. His drumming is fast and relentless, with plenty of double kick on every song. HELL WITHIN doesnt add much to the crowded genre, but they stand out among the newer bands. They are trying different things to break away from the metalcore formula. Its still a little predictable, but you have to admire their effort. Opener Condemning The Bloodline packs a punch and preludes whats in store on the rest of the album. On Lament For The Fallen, JJ offers a nice blend of shout-clean-raspy hardcore. Blast beats pound away on Assembly of the Locusts, it also boasts good harmonies and melodies, lots of tempo changes and variation. Eternal Uprising is a brutal groovefest with nice guitar leads. Hours Of decay changes things up a bit with a nice acoustic twin lead and a galloping beat.

War From A Harlots Mouth/Burning Skies - split-Diese EP ist eine etwas andere Splitscheibe zweier Bands, die anfangs noch gewöhnlich erscheint. Die ersten drei Songs liefern die Berliner WAR FROM A HARLOTS MOUTH, und der irrsinnige Mix aus Metalcore, Mathcore, Hardcore, Thrash, Death und Grind fetzt, mosht und kloppt voll auf die Zwölf. Nicht gerade neu, dafür aber effektiv, kurzweilig und Freude bereitend. Gleichermaßen brutal und hektisch, aber mit noch etwas mehr Hysterie und Speed kommen dann BURNING SKIES aus Bristol mit ihren drei Stücken um die Ecke, wobei besonders Shitfarmer für Verwüstung sorgt. Auch fein. Dann gehts los: Zuerst covern WAR FROM A HARLOTS MOUTH RKD, einen Song ihrer britischen Splitpartner, und selbige tun es der deutschen Truppe gleich, indem sie zwei Tracks später den WFAHM-Song Fighting Dwarves With Keytars in ihrer Version darbieten. Spätestens hier wird sehr gut deutlich, dass sich diese beiden Kapellen bestens einander ergänzen. Zwischen den beiden Coverversionen haben sich die zwei Bands dann noch den Spaß gemacht, gemeinsam einen nicht ganz so ernst gemeinten A Capella-Rap auf das Stück Plastik gebannt. FAZIT: Diese Split-EP bietet musikalisch mehr als soliden, modernen Knüppelstoff und ist ein hübsches Schmankerl für den Plattenschrank.

Whitechapel - a new era of corruption-Nachdem die Band mit ihrem Debütalbum "The Somatic Defilement" noch nicht ganz überzeugen konnte, haben die Metalcore-/Deathcore-Spezialisten WHITECHAPEL bereits mit dem Folgewerk "This Is Exile" ganz gut zugeschlagen und holen nun mit ihrem dritten Album "A New Era Of Corruption" zum erhofften und irgendwie auch erwarteten Todeshieb aus. Schon die ersten Töne machen deutlich, dass die Band einen guten Schritt vorangekommen ist und besonders die Produktion wirkt so brutal, wie es sich nahezu jede Death-Metal-Band nur wünschen könnte. Der Sound ist superfett, die Gitarren bersten das Gebälk, die Drums sind schwer wie nichts Gutes, der Bass rumort in der Tiefe und der Sänger grunzt und gurgelt was die Stimmbänder hergeben. Somit ergibt sich ein gewalttätiges, brutales Gesamtbild, das in der heutigen Zeit natürlich nichts außergewöhnliches mehr darstellt, sich jedoch vom qualitativen Rahmen her ganz klar in den oberen Reihen der Metalcore-Szene. WHITECHAPEL bedienen ihr Genre mit jedem Ton und erfüllen sämtliche Vorgaben und Erwartungen bis ins Detail. Sie grooven und prügeln abwechselnd, mal schleppen sich die Parts von einer Wunde zur nächsten, dann wieder wird auf die Tube gedrückt und kurze Blast-Schübe halten einzug; eben so, wie man es vom Deathcore her kennt und hören möchte.

Starkweather - this sheltering night-Starkweather was formed in 1989 with founders Todd Forkin on guitar, Harry Rosa on drums, and Rennie Resmini on vocals. Even in their embryonic stage their unique collective vision was lethal. Starkweather's progressive metal precision, Hardcore grit, and Avante Garde experimentalism coalesced into one awe inspiring musical force. After releasing a demo cassette through the then fledging tape trading circuit, Starkweather unleashed their 1991 debut album "Crossbearer" onto the masses. The release became an instant crossover classic, exerting far reaching influence over the hardcore/metal world of the day. "Crossbearer" paved the way for the hardcore/metal hybrids that dominate today's music community, ultimately changing the course of heavy music as we know it. Throughout the nineties, sporadic live shows and hard to find 7"EP/Split releases and compilation appearances only added to their ever growing mysterious aura. All of it fuel to the flames of fanaticism for their followers. In 1995, Starkweather surfaced again to release their "Into The Wire" album on the Edison Recording label (also early home to Coalesce, Overcast, Converge, and more). The release once again cemented the band's reputation as visionaries, delving deeper musically and lyrically than any bands before them. Soon after they released a sought after split 7"EP with Season To Risk, and even contributed a track to the celebrated "Definitely Not The Majors" compilation before entering into a hibernation, or so it seemed... For nearly a decade, Starkweather flew just below the radar. More importantly they flew below the metallic hardcore explosion that was taking place on the grid. Not interested in running with any pack or being part of any scene, Starkweather veered and ventured out into the darkness, alone. Like the animal they are, Starkweather would still need to feed. The band made occasional live show and festival appearances before unleashing their stunning "Croatoan" album on the Candlelight and Hypertension labels in 2006. The album was ultimately celebrated by fans of all sub-genres of heavy music and considered one of the best of 2006 by countless critics worldwide. Now after four long years, Starkweather have emerged from the darkness to bring you their latest full length opus "This Sheltering Night". "This Sheltering Night" is a dizzying eleven song journey of unimaginable metallic twists and turns, Featuring mesmerizing soundscapes from Sophia Perennis and Oktopus (dalek) alongside traditional Starkweather efforts, "This Sheltering Night" is as brutal and as dynamic as aggressive music can be.
