For those around Buffalo in the late 80s/early 90s, ZERO TOLERANCE shows were THE event. They were the locals that could pull their weight amongst the nationals and the reason you showed up early. Erupting from their former band NEW BALANCE, ZERO TOLERANCE was a more furious, more intense new creature. Specializing in laconic intros, tight musicianship, intense stage presence and spiritual lyrics, ZT had the complete package to take on the world at large. ZERO TOLERANCEs recognition and impeccable street cred led them to play east coast shows with notables such as CRO-MAGS, SICK OF IT ALL and KILLING TIME and even a full US tour with SHELTER. These tours gave the burgeoning 90s hardcore scene a glimpse of Buffalo intensity and restrained madness. Duff McKagan von Guns N' Roses nannte es das "Sergeant Peppers of punk rock", und auch sonst gibt es niemanden, der bezweifelt, dass "The Shape Of Punk To Come" eines der einflussreichsten, wenn nicht sogar das wichtigste Hardcore-Album ist. Es erschien 1998 und war gleichzeitig der Schlusspunkt in der Karriere der schwedischen Band Refused. Kaum eine andere Gruppe konnte Intellekt und politisches Gewissen derart punktgenau in musikalische Energie umwandeln. Benannt in Anlehnung an Ornette Colemans Platte "The Shape Of Jazz To Come" war den Mannen um Sänger Dennis Lyxzen von Anfang an klar, dass hier ein Meilenstein entstehen sollte. Das Magazin "Kerrang!" wählte "The Shape Of Punk To Come" auf Platz 13 der 50 wichtigsten Alben aller Zeiten. Und: "Es klingt immer noch frisch, zeitgemäß und neu", meint Metallicas Kirk Hammett. Davon können sich die Fans auf der De-luxe-Version überzeugen, die mit einem 50-minütigen Livemitschnitt (Umeå Open Festival, 1998) sowie einer Live-DVD aufwartet.
